Vasish Ramkhalwon, Secretary General of IAM, Reappointed as Secretary of the Africa Network of Insurers Association (ANIA)

ANIA, a network which started with 5 willing National Associations in Africa which, following the discussions on the side-line of Africa Insurance Organisation (AIO) in Kenya in 2022, came together in Mauritius in February 2023 and established ANIA with the goal of bringing National Insurers Associations in Africa closer together to consult and benchmark in order to develop stronger insurance markets.

ANIA is officially a body under the AIO, having been admitted at the Conference and General Assembly held in Algiers, Algeria in May 2023.
There are several areas/issues such as Climate change, Risk Based Capital, IFRS17, ESG and other significant compliance, legal, and regulatory concerns that various insurance markets in Africa are dealing with. ANIA offers a forum where the different National Associations can consult, benchmark, seek quick references and hold regular meetings to talk about these and other challenges that are driving changes in how the business of insurance are undertaken.

Since February 2023 to date, ANIA memberships have grown and currently comprises of 17 National Associations from 16 Countries including:

South Africa
Botswana
Angola
Malawi
Democratic Republic of Congo
In its AGM held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on 24 March 2025, Vasish Ramkhalawon was reappointed as Secretary of ANIA for another term of 2 years.
